Process of Manufacture

  1. WET  Process
  2. DRY Process
                                                         1. WET PROCESS
STEP 1:- Limestone brought from the quarries crushed to smaller fragments.
STEP 2:- The fragments than taken to a ball mill or tube mill where it is mixed with clay or shale and ground to fine consistency with the addition of water (SLURRY with Water Content of about 35-50%) wherein particles,crushed to fineness of INDIAN STANDARD SIEVE NO.9,are held in suspension.
STEP 3:-Slurry fed to Rotary Klin (powdered coal,oil or gas).
STEP 4:- Slurry is converted into clinker(temperature 1300-1500 degree Centigrate).
STEP 5:- Clinker is ground in Ball Mill (addition of 2-3% of Gypsum).
STEP 6:-Stored in Cement Silos.
STEP 7:- Packing Plant.

                                                      2. DRY PROCESS
STEP 1:- The raw materials are crushed dry and fed in correct proportions into a grinding mill where they are dried and reduced to fine powder.
STEP 2:- DRY powder called the Raw Meal is then further blended and corrected for its right composition by means of Compressed Air.
STEP 3:- The blended meal is further sieved and fed into a Rotating Disc called Granulator.
STEP 4:- A quantity of water about 12% by Weight is added to make the blended meal into Pellets.
This is done to permit air flow for exchange of heat for further chemical reactions and conversion of the same into clinker further in the Rotary Klin.
The equipment used in dry process are quite Small and Economical.
Total consumption of Coal in this method is only 100 kg as compared to the requirement of about 350 kg for producing 1 ton of Cement in Wet Process.
